Personal choice should not infringe on others February 23, 2006 Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 02/23/06 (no direct weblink available) Guest Column by Pat Trevisani: In response to Randall Pettit and other guest columnists that are against a strict smoking ban, I and many of the citizens, employers and visitors to Galveston are happy to see that the Galveston leadership is considering a strict public smoking ordinance. Leadership is a difficult job, but leadership is why this Galveston mayor and city council were elected. One of the challenges they face is how best to protect the citizens and visitors of Galveston. I do agree that smoking should be a matter of choice, a personal choice as to whether to smoke or not. This personal choice should not infringe on the choices of others who choose not to smoke or choose to be in a smoke-free environment. « Back | The Newsroom »
