It pays to stay in bed with new NASA studies January 2, 2006 Houston Business Journal (Internet / Print) 12/30/05 http://www.bizjournals.com/houston/stories/2006/01/02/tidbits1.html Johnson Space Center is recruiting volunteers for space flight simulation studies. And, best of all, participants get paid to stay in bed. The studies focus on using long-term bed rest to simulate the effects of weightlessness on the human body. NASA scientists say the effects of staying in bed closely imitate some of the changes in an astronaut's body during weightlessness. Participants stay in a NASA research facility at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston for 41 to 119 days, depending on the selected study. A series of tests measure the baseline state of the body and determine changes in bone, muscle, heart, circulatory and other systems. « Back | The Newsroom »
