Woman spends New Year's having baby January 2, 2006 Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 01/02/06 http://www.galvnews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=4b0cefc688ffd591 Reyna Villa had no idea she’d be the mother of the county’s first baby of 2006. “They told me I was due on Jan. 4,” she said. Her family had planned to celebrate the new year together at her home in Alvin. All that changed, though, when the 21-year-old Villa went into labor early Saturday. “My water broke at 6:30 a.m.,” she said. Even then, a New Year’s baby didn’t seem likely. The family arrived at the University of Texas Medical Branch at 8:25 a.m. thinking the delivery would come soon. The baby had other ideas. “He arrived at 12:01 a.m.,” said Marsha Canright, UTMB’s director of media relations. In fact, nurses in the birthing center marked Nicolas Castillo’s arrival at precisely 36 seconds after midnight. He weighed 9 pounds, 5 ounces. « Back | The Newsroom »
