Committee chairman Kenneth Mayfield said he was briefed about Parkland's plan. However, he expressed frustration at the pace of change – something he had also done after the committee's one other meeting, in April. In the eight months since then, and nearly a year after a scathing critique of jail health care by a national expert, the county has not hired any sizable contingent of new medical staff for the jail. In fact, the county has faced some erosion of staff because of the turbulence created by the transition of jail health care oversight from the University of Texas Medical Branch to Parkland.
