Galveston County Daily News (Internet / Print) 01/12/06http://galvestondailynews.com/story.lasso?ewcd=dce2491c6ddf74cb For more than four years, CeCe Snyder has been spending a portion of most Mondays sitting in the oncology waiting room at the University of Texas Medical Branch. It’s not an entirely cheerful place. The folks who gather there are dealing with the terrifying reality of cancer. “The main thing I’ve learned is that I’m really there as a listener,” Snyder said. She might offer a blanket for a patient who is cold, or she might help out with directions for someone seeking another part of the medical complex, but for the most part, she’s there to offer a voice of encouragement and a sympathetic ear. “Our chaplains are trained to deal with much of what these people are experiencing,” said the Rev. Karen Alcott, the chaplain at UTMB and the coordinator of the program.
